Are you looking for the best online incorporation service, but you’re not sure which one is the right choice for you? Northwest Registered Agent and MyCompanyWorks are both services that can form an LLC or corporation on your behalf.
In this comparison, we’ll walk through the five main factors you need to consider when choosing between these services. Which one is the better overall option?
Comparison Based on the Five Key Points
In our review of each online incorporation service, we performed a “stress test” on each based on five key factors:
- Compared pricing and features to determine the overall value of each service.
- Researched their track record based on how many businesses they’ve formed.
- Assessed the quality of customer service based on customer reviews, as well as our own personal experience.
- Walked through the ordering process to determine each service’s ease of use.
- Reviewed the turnaround times for LLC and corporation formations.
Overall Pricing and Value
Northwest: In comparing many of the best incorporation services available, Northwest ended up topping our list as one of the elite options. At $49, they’re dead even with Incfile as the most affordable service that provides a full year of registered agent service. Once the first year is up, the registered agent service will renew at $125 per year.
MyCompanyWorks: Their basic package is $79, which isn’t a bad price considering the business documents included, but they do not include registered agent service. Also, with the higher-level packages costing $199 and $279, we would expect to see a bit more by way of added value. On the plus side, their registered agent service only costs $99 per year, which is a great rate.
Winner = Northwest
Even with the inclusion of a year of registered agent service, Northwest is $30 cheaper than MyCompanyWorks when it comes to the basic formation of an LLC or corporation. Northwest comes away from this category as a big winner.
Company Track Record & Experience
Northwest: Northwest was founded in 1998 and has helped form around two million businesses. They share on their site that they are currently working with over 200 new LLCs and corporations each day. While there aren’t too many reviews online for the company, most of the ones we found were very positive, and aligned with the mission and values promised by Northwest.
MyCompanyWorks: Founded as MyNewCompany in 2001, they recently changed their name to MyCompanyWorks. Since they opened for business, they’ve helped form more than 50,000 companies. When it comes to customer feedback, MyCompanyWorks truly shines. They have about 2,500 reviews available online, and over 97% of them are either 4- or 5-star ratings.
Winner = MyCompanyWorks
Northwest has served more customers, but MyCompanyWorks has an absolutely stellar reputation in the realm of customer feedback. While Northwest also has a solid track record, MyCompanyWorks wins this category based on their massive volume of positive customer reviews.
Customer Service Comparison
Northwest: Northwest offers phone and email support. We first tested their email support, and while it took nearly 24 hours to receive an email back, the response was detailed, and the rep went beyond simply answering our question and checking off an email response. We also called and received similarly impressive service. The representative who answered the phone took the time to ask for details so that he could give us the most accurate answer.
Northwest’s big claim to fame regarding customer service is their Corporate Guide system that connects each of their clients with one of their highly trained representatives. This means that whenever you have questions, you can direct them to the same person every time, rather than explaining your situation to a different rep each time you call or email.
MyCompanyWorks: MyCompanyWorks provides customers with phone and email support. We reached out via the form on their website and received a response back in less than 24 hours, and we were also able to quickly reach an employee on the phone. Their reps were courteous and professional, and they elaborated a bit on their responses as well.
Winner = Northwest
While we’re also fans of the customer support you’ll receive from MyCompanyWorks, their support is not nearly as personalized as Northwest’s service department. Northwest makes the customer support process so easy that we had to give them the win in this category.
Ease of Use
Northwest: The application process with Northwest is streamlined and easy to follow. You simply select your package, enter your personal info and business details, and pay for the order. It doesn’t get more straightforward than this.
MyCompanyWorks: Once you’ve selected a package and any add-ons you need for your business, the application process is quick and easy. As long as you have all of the information you need, it shouldn’t take longer than 10-15 minutes. If you’re not sure where to begin with forming your business, they have a list of helpful articles covering topics like where to form your LLC or corporation, and which of those entities is the right choice for you.
Winner = Tie
We really appreciate how simple it is to form an LLC or corporation with both of these companies, and the lack of pushy upsells is also a plus for both of them. We’ll call this category a toss-up.
Speed of Formation
Northwest: When you select your state from the dropdown menu of the application, an estimated turnaround time will display on the screen. Most states have expedited service available for an additional fee, so you’ll see two turnaround times on the order form. It’s worth noting that they only include their same-day processing feature in their most expensive package.
MyCompanyWorks: MyCompanyWorks guarantees that they’ll process your formation paperwork the same day you submit your order if it’s before 3pm ET, or the next business day if you submit your order after 3pm ET. They also offer an upgrade to expedite service with the state once paperwork is filed, and they have detailed estimates for both standard and expedited service on the order form.
Winner = Tie
We looked up estimated processing times for quite a few states on both of their websites, and discovered that MyCompanyWorks and Northwest are nearly identical when it comes to turnaround times. This category is a straight-up tie between these two service providers.
It’s tough to top the elite customer reviews of MyCompanyWorks, but Northwest’s prices and top-notch customer support get the job done in our opinion. Even considering the areas where these companies are relative equals, Northwest has the edge in two of the most important categories.
Northwest can form your LLC or corporation for just $49, while also including a full year of registered agent service, whereas the starting price point for MyCompanyWorks is $79, with no registered agent service. When you add in their highly customized support network, we think Northwest is the winner in this battle ― but it’s important to note that it isn’t a blowout victory, as MyCompanyWorks certainly holds their own.
